Four Decades of Liberal Hate
My patience has worn thin.
In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, I hear a lot of folks urging me to build bridges and unite with “the other side.” I’m told that the rhetoric that lead to this violence is a “both sides” issue and that we’re all equally culpable. Except, that simply isn’t true. How long do we have to let incredibly dangerous ideas persist before we stop pretending that they hold equal validity and weight to ours?
We are watching those on the Left flailing in the water, convinced that they’re not drowning. Engaging with them as long as their thrashing continues will only results in taking us all under.
Reading “it’s time to talk about charlie” by @boriquagato addressed the majority of my sentiments from recent years. The trajectory we’re witnessing extends back far further in history. The culmination of assassinating a man over his beliefs and opinions did not sneak up on us overnight. It was championed and perpetuated by only one side. The “both sides” argument presupposes that the lies told about many of us are true. They aren’t. Even as our nation is as divided as ever, this blatant dishonesty persists. Look no further than the out of context quotes and hateful fabrications of Charlie Kirk’s beliefs and words. If they’re saying that about someone whose life and debates are recorded on camera, what is being said about you?
Now, not everyone grew up with a mom picking you up in her Nautica branded minivan with a “I’m fed up with the liberal media” bumpersticker adhered to the back. You didn’t begrudgingly listen to Rush Limbaugh on the way home from middle school every day knowing that no amount of teenage eye rolling or exasperated sighs would convince her to turn off his broadcast.
I realize that many of you reading this are disillusioned Liberals and Democrats who walked away from the party in 2020 due to vaccine mandates and insane lockdowns. As such, you may lack some of the historic perspective to understand that the current dynamic is absolutely nothing new. Let me rewind the clock.
